PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:

MORNING PROGRAM 1 (9:15-10:15 AM)
2017 U.S. Immigration Changes Under the Trump Administration & What You Need to Know to Prepare for 2018*

Presented by Susan McConn, Senior Attorney, Foster LLP

This presentation will review 2017’s immigrant policy changes and possible changes to come in 2018 under the Trump Administration, including increased worksite enforcement and site visits, increased challenges for H-1B Visa petitions, the requirement of personal interviews for employment-based adjustment of status applicants, the removal of USCIS’s long-honored policy guideline of giving deference to previously adjudicated nonimmigrant petitions, and an obvious increase in “requests for evidence.”  Learn how to prepare immigration compliance programs to support consistent Form I-9 compliance that can withstand the scrutiny expected during a government audit or worksite enforcement action.

MORNING PROGRAM 2 (10:30-11:30 AM)

Prepare to Care*

Presented by Isabel Longoria, Associate State Director of Outreach and Advocacy, AARP Houston

This presentation will share information about how to provide support caregivers in the workplace - everything from individual caregiving planning to best practices for structuring a workplace to be more caregiving-friendly.  Learn how to set an individual caregiving plan to help employees who may be struggling to find relevant community resources after suddenly becoming a caregiver for a loved one.

LUNCHEON PRESENTATION (12:30-1:30 PM)

Why Talk is Cheap: Employee Engagement and the Bottom Line*

Presented by Karen Horn, Author of Why Talk is Cheap: Employee Engagement and the Bottom Line

Communication with employees is a strategic business process, not a one-off set of tactical activities. Managers are involved, and HR can help with some simple and practical actions. Understand the connection between engagement, the bottom line and communication and how to connect human capital metrics.

BOOK-SIGNING immediately following the presentation, with copies of Karen Horn's book, Why Talk is Cheap: Employee Engagement and the Bottom Line available for purchase ($21.65, payment by cash, check or credit card will be accepted)

* Submitted to SHRM for Professional Development Credits (PDCs) towards the SHRM-CP and SHRM-SCP and to HR Certification Institute for HR (General credit) towards PHR and SPHR recertification requirements.
