Keeping #MeToo from Becoming #YouToo: Revisiting and Rethinking Best Practices for Preventing & Responding to Sexual Harassment
Presented by Steve Shardonofsky, Partner and Kathryn "Chris" Palamountain, Senior Counsel, Seyfarth Shaw LLP
Daily headlines detailing high-profile harassment scandals have many compliance professionals and company executives talking and worried. This drum-beat of revelations highlights the critical importance of revisiting and rethinking best practices for preventing and responding to sexual harassment.
The presentation will examine the use of social media and public shaming in this context, discuss strategies for responding to high-profile #MeToo revelations, and review considerations for keeping past and future claims confidential. We will also re-examine best practices for anti-harassment policies and training to reinforce a culture of zero-tolerance in the workplace, and discuss enhanced tips and tools for investigation protocols. Finally, we will discuss how the current movement fits into a larger pattern of issues and compliance requirements relating to gender equality in the workplace, including pay equity and salary history bans.
