MANAGING DIFFICULT/CRUCIAL CONVERSATIONS*
Crucial conversations - sometimes called “critical” conversations or just plain old “tough” conversations - are discussions in which tension and feelings run high, relationships and trust may be fragile, and different outcomes matter greatly to each person. There is always concern about whether or not feelings will be hurt, intentions will be misinterpreted, or the “wrong” choice of words will be used. The possibility arises that matters and relationships may be worse off after the conversation takes place.
This seminar teaches HR Professionals to develop confidence and the competency necessary to facilitate such conversations with colleagues, bosses, employees, and other stakeholders.
- Learn essential communication techniques necessary for facilitating crucial conversations.
- Identify issues and statements which trigger immediate overt or covert emotional reactions and misinterpretations.
- Identify critically important communication and conduct agreements for 1-on-1 and team meetings.
- Practice 3 specific conversational techniques that can be used to manage and move through crucial conversations.
- Practice 4 techniques for offering balanced, constructive feedback.
*The workshop offers 6 PDCs for the SHRM-CP and SHRM-SCP and 6 hours of HR (General) credit towards PHR and SPHR recertification requirements.
