Leading with Confidence: Advanced Skills for Savvy Managers*

Leading with Confidence: Advanced Skills for Savvy Managers*

The skills required to manage people are growing increasingly complex with dotted line connections that go beyond the org chart, but typical training only covers the basics from an academic POV. This program is designed around real world situations for experienced professionals to enhance your ability to lead high functioning teams and provide expert guidance to managers throughout your organization.

The morning focuses on tools for getting things done: Goal Setting, Delegation & Accountability.  The best managers handle more than deadlines and budgets. They influence every link in the chain that leads to team goals. How many efforts come to fruition? How many times does work get revised? How often are expectations exceeded or big ideas recommended? “A lot” is not very helpful.

People naturally rise to the occasion when they know exactly how their specific contributions affect the outcome, when they collaborate on establishing milestones and are empowered to make it happen. Anyone can pick a number, but only brilliant managers bring everyone into alignment.

The afternoon focuses on tools for getting the best from people: Direction, Support, Coaching & Retaining Top Talent. Great employees don’t happen by accident. They’re identified early on, developed and coached to their full potential. Then the challenge is keeping them by treating them like stars with a wider array of incentives than title or compensation.

Key Takeaways:

  • Identify unique measurables for direct reports and lateral teams
  • Employ high engagement planning to get buy in to team goals
  • Delegate effectively without micromanaging or dumping on
  • Use ongoing results to instill day to day self-management
  • Balance appropriate levels of direction, support and feedback
  • Spot coaching opportunities for reinforcement or redirection
  • Identify personal styles, attitudes, strengths and blind spots
  • Adjust approach to get the best response from each person
  • Use responsibility and recognition to retain top performers
