MORNING PROGRAM 1: Safe At Work: Managing Intimate Partner Violence*
Presented by Thecia Jenkins, Harris County Domestic Violence Coordinating Council
One in three women and one in four men experience violence in their intimate partnerships. The effects of intimate partner violence impact every area of the survivor's life, including the workplace. This session provides an overview of intimate partner violence and strategies to assist the survivor while also managing risk in the workplace.
MORNING PROGRAM 2: COMMANDING THE ROOM: Creating Compelling Stories that Move Audiences*
Presented by Jeff Hiller, Director of Training, JB Training Solutions
Who says business is boring? It sure feels that way. One problem is data dumps that leave people to make sense of it themselves. Another is the smart, dedicated types who turn into zombies in front of the room. No wonder people would rather be doing work email than paying attention. There’s a trick we learned as kids that still works. When we want people to pay attention, we tell great stories that make interesting points and keep them hanging on every word. Instead of anesthetizing your audience with facts, stats and graphs, you can learn to apply storytelling techniques to bring your orientations, recommendations and senior staff updates to life. Agree with you or not, they’ll come to your meetings more happily ever after.
Luncheon presentation: The Changing Face of HR: People Trends Driving a New HR*
Presented by Joshua Ross, Partner, Aon Hewitt
HR today is being placed more towards the center of alleviating the risks of top leadership than ever before. Digitization is changing the talent requirements across organizations and HR is expected to understand the talent needed to be sourced, where to get it and how to get it …. without clear direction from the business. HR must learn how to be change agents in organizations that do not always know they need to change.
