What HR Needs to Know About Medicare for those Working Past Age 65*

Presented by Mallory Freitag, MPH, Lead Benefits Counseling Coordinator, Houston-Galveston Area Agency on Aging

Many people are choosing to work well past age 65.  It is important that organizations understand Medicare, the differences between Medicare and most employer Group Health Plans, and who pays first when an employee is enrolled in Medicare.  Participants in this workshop will examine how their Group Health Plans work with Medicare, and will be able to demonstrate how to best support and guide employees who are Medicare eligible.  There will be a focus on coordination of benefits and the different options for Medicare-eligible employees.  Also, we will work in a problem-based learning exercise by looking at different case studies.

Credit Hours

*The workshop offers 2.75 PDCs for the SHRM-CP and SHRM-SCP and 2.75 hours of HR (General) credit towards PHR and SPHR recertification requirements.

MALLORY FREITAG is the Lead Benefits Counseling Coordinator with the Houston-Galveston Area Agency on Aging.  She holds a Master's in Public Health from the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston.  She has previously worked for non-profit organizations, supporting families affected by Alzheimer's disease and related dementia.  In her role with the Houston-Galveston Area Agency on Aging, Mallory and her team are dedicated to assisting, educating, and empowering Medicare-eligible seniors and people with disabilities.
