Accounting Basics for Non-Financial HR Managers*

Presented by Calvin Upton, CPA and Christa Jaganath, CPA, Briggs & Veselka

Even if you don’t perform a financial function, every successful manager should have a working knowledge of accounting, the language of business. In this interactive workshop, two professionals from Briggs & Veselka CPAs and Business Advisors will present on topics including; basic accounting terms, reading a balance sheet and income statement, the differences between an audit, compilation and review, tips for keeping your benefits plans in financial regulatory compliance, and working with your finance department 

Credit Hours

*The workshop offers 2.75 PDCs for the SHRM-CP and SHRM-SCP and 2.75 hours of HR (Business) credit towards PHR and SPHR recertification requirements.

Presenters

CALVIN UPTON has over fifteen years of experience in providing audit and consulting services to clients in a variety of industries: including employee benefit plans, hospitality, and manufacturing industries in both the private and public sectors. With a deep specialization within the ERISA industry, he serves as a leader within Briggs & Velselka’s employee benefit plan niche practice area - providing technical experience in defined contribution and defined benefit plans, plan compliance and often speaks on ERISA related topics.

CHRISTA JAGANATH, is a dedicated audit and consulting professional has a decade of experience in public accounting, serving primarily middle market clients in the manufacturing, professional services, pipe & supply, oil-field services, and restaurant and retail industries. Her technical experience includes providing quality services in audits, reviews, compilations, employee benefit plan audits, agreed upon procedures, technical accounting, and reporting in both IFRS and GAAP. Christa currently leads the restaurant and retail practice at Briggs & Veselka with the passion to assist clients with operational issues related to running a profitable restaurant concept..
