Presented by Sherry Fultz, SPHR, SHRM-SCP, CCP, CBP, HR Officer, Houston Endowment Inc and Jenny Williamson, SPHR, SHRM-SCP, Employee Relations Manager, Pappas Restaurants

HR Basics is a two-day workshop that introduces you to the field of Human Resources.

Are you new to HR or to human resources subject matter? Moving from a specialist to generalist position or administrative to exempt?  Has your small company employer asked you to assume an HR role?  This two-day program led by Senior HR Professionals provides an overview of the major areas of HR practice.

Beginning with a review of employment law, you’ll then move through each core HR function to understand the role and responsibilities of HR in each stage of the Employment Life Cycle:

  • Compensation & Benefits
  • Employee Relations & Retention
  • Performance Management
  • Training & Development
  • Workplace Planning & Record Keeping


You’ll gain an understanding of the evolving role of HR as a strategic business partner in supporting the company’s mission and goals. Along the way, you’ll begin to build your personal development plan to lead to a proficiency in the field.

Your registration includes a comprehensive workbook packed full of information, practical considerations, examples and other resources that you’ll be able to use as you move forward in your career.

Credit Hours

*The workshop offers 12.25 PDCs for the SHRM-CP and SHRM-SCP and 12.25 hours of HR (General) credit towards PHR and SPHR recertification requirements.

Presenters

At Baylor University, SHERRY FULTZ knew she wanted to be in a career in HR and that strong HR elevates every area of an organization. A native Houstonian, Sherry started her HR journey at a Fortune 500 company, then moved to Texas Children’s Hospital where she was progressively promoted to Vice President of Human Resources. She is the current Head of HR at Houston Endowment. Sherry thrives on developing solutions that facilitate a high-performance culture and has led strategic teams in virtually all areas of HR. Sherry holds a MS in HR Management and designations of SHRM-SCP, SPHR, CCP and CBP.

JENNY WILLIAMSON is the Employee Relations Manager for Pappas Restaurants, a family owned restaurant business operating over 100 restaurants in 8 States.  Jenny has worked at Pappas Restaurants for over 27 years.  She is involved in all aspect of HR for Pappas however her primary focus is Employee Relations, Benefits and Management Training.  She actively volunteers in Pappas’ various community service projects, benefiting such organizations as the Food Bank of Houston, Target Hunger, the Boys & Girls Clubs of America and Habitat for Humanity. Jenny completed her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology at the University of Houston.   Jenny is a member of HR Houston, SHRM and the National Restaurant Association Executive HR Study Group.

PRE-REGISTRATION AND PRE-PAYMENT IS REQUIRED.  WE ARE UNABLE TO ACCOMMODATE LATE REGISTRATIONS, WALK-INS OR PAYMENT AT THE DOOR.

Cancellations may be made with a full refund up to 5 business days prior to the workshop.  Individuals who register and neither cancel nor attend are not eligible for refund or rescheduling.  Substitutions may be made at any time; however, substitutions may incur an additional fee due to differences in the member type, e.g., substituting a non-member for a member registration. You must turn onto East TC Jester and travel North approximately 2 blocks to "Entrance 5" of the office park named "The Preserve". Turn Right at Entrance 5 and look for the garage marked Building 2190 for parking.
