Session 2: Thursday, June 11 - Back on Board. Avoiding Legal Pitfalls in the Onboarding (and Reboarding) Process*

Presented by Charles Jeremiah, Esq., Partner AND Kristi Soppet, Esq., Attorney, Holland & Knight, LLP

You’re resuming operations, bringing back employees, at least in phases, and rehiring as we collectively recover from the COVID-19 crises. It’s as important as ever to be vigilant in your human resources practices. In the rush to recovery, take a deep breath, step back and ensure your onboarding practices are legally compliant. This session will address legally appropriate considerations, areas of inquiry, practices, and “do’s and don’ts” in bringing workers (back) on board.

CHARLES JEREMIAH is a partner and trial attorney at the international firm of Holland & Knight, LLP. He has represented companies in Texas and nationwide in employment matters for nearly thirty years. Mr. Jeremiah is board certified in labor and employment law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, a 2019 Texas Super Lawyer® in Employment Defense Litigation, and has an AV Preeminent Peer Review Rating with Martindale Hubbell, the highest rating in competence and ethics. In addition to litigation, he routinely counsels employers across industry sectors on compliance with federal and state law, and best practices. He is active in the Houston Bar Association and currently co-chairs the Special Olympics Committee. He is also active in the HR Houston HR Gives Back Committee.

KRISTI SOPPET is an experienced litigation attorney with Holland & Knight who practices complex commercial and civil litigation in state and federal court. She is admitted to practice in Texas, Louisiana and Florida. Ms. Soppet previously served as a judicial law clerk to U.S. Magistrate Judge Wallace Capel Jr. in the United States District Court for the Middle District of Alabama.
