Description

What HR Needs to Know About Medicare for those Working Past Age 65*

Presented by Alejandra "Alex" Rischan, Benefits Counselor II and Karina Villela, Benefits Counselor II, Houston-Galveston Area Counsil

Many people are choosing to work well past age 65.  It is important that organizations understand Medicare, the differences between Medicare and most employer Group Health Plans, and who pays first when an employee is enrolled in Medicare.  Participants in this workshop will examine how their Group Health Plans work with Medicare, and will be able to demonstrate how to best support and guide employees who are Medicare eligible.  There will be a focus on coordination of benefits and the different options for Medicare-eligible employees.  Also, we will work in a problem-based learning exercise by looking at different case studies.

Credit Hours

*The workshop offers 3 PDCs for the SHRM-CP and SHRM-SCP and 3 hours of HR (General) credit towards PHR and SPHR recertification requirements.
