HR Basics is a two-day workshop that introduces you to the field of Human Resources.
Are you new to HR or to human resources subject matter? Moving from a specialist to generalist position or administrative to exempt? Has your small company employer asked you to assume an HR role? This two-day program led by Senior HR Professionals provides an overview of the major areas of HR practice.
Beginning with a review of employment law, you’ll then move through each core HR function to understand the role and responsibilities of HR in each stage of the Employment Life Cycle:

ABOUT THE PRESENTERS:
Jo Vonna Hill, SHRM-SCP, SPHR, began her career in Human Resources in 1985 with Hermann Hospital. She currently works at the law firm, Pagel, Davis & Hill, where she coordinates Human Resource and legal work performed for clients of the law firm. Jo Vonna provides consulting in legal compliance audits, employee relations, investigations, EEOC and unemployment claims, FMLA and ADA administration, and litigation prevention and support. Her experience includes management and/or consulting in numerous industries including medical, education, oil & gas, transportation, and construction. Jo Vonna has served in leadership positions at HR Houston as HR Ambassadors Committee Chair and as a Special Projects Panel member.
An alumnus of the University of Houston's C.T. Bauer College of Business, BRANDON WIGGINS, SPHR is a well-rounded and ambitious HR professional with over 8 years of progressive experience working at Methodist Hospital and Baker Hughes. Currently, an HR Officer for Stolt-Nielsen USA, a global bulk liquid chemical transportation company in Houston, Brandon’s responsibilities include employee relations, talent acquisition, global mobility, and HRIS. His accomplishments include certified Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR), recipient of i10 Media’s Top 40 Under 30 Award which recognizes Houston’s next generation of leaders, as well as serving as President of the University of Houston Black Alumni Association, which celebrated the largest scholarship distribution in its history under his leadership.

Cancellations may be made in writing with a full refund up to 5 business days prior to the meeting. Individuals who register and neither cancel nor attend are not eligible for refund or rescheduling. Substitutions may be made at any time; however, substitutions may incur an additional fee due to differences in the member type, e.g., substituting a non-member for a member registration.
