HR Houston’s 2020 Gulf Coast Symposium on Human Resource Issues on May 13-15 will be here before you know it. Please review these "need-to-know" items to help your speaking experience run smoothly.

The call for 2020 concurrent session speaker proposals is now closed. For more information, please email Barbara Lane, Executive Director, HR Houston or call 713.426.2646.

Through the Symposium Mobile App and web page, registered attendees will have access to password-protected pdf files of speakers' presentation materials. In 2019, more than 90% of concurrent session speakers submitted presentation files to take advantage of BENEFITS that include:

  • Increases the odds of your session being chosen by an attendee
  • Gives you the option of eliminating the cost of hard copy handouts
  • Extends your post-conference presence, where attendees can revisit your material for up to 1 year
  • Provides the only way - other than exhibiting - to include marketing information about you or your company for attendees
  • Use your last slide/page to share information about your blogs, social media presence, newsletters and/or whitepapers
  • Positively impacts your session evaluation results from attendees

To submit your materials:

     1. Click here to review the Marketing Policy prior to preparing your presentation
              • Contact information (phone, email and website) may only appear on the LAST slide
              • Slide Format should be set for a 16:9 ratio
     2. To submit your presentation, log in to your unique speaker portal with your username and password. If you have
not received your log-in details, please email Stevie Underhill or call 713-426-2646 no later than April 13,
     3. The password-protected presentations will go live for registered attendees in mid-April and will remain accessible
         to attendees through March 2021.

BE AWARE: Submitting a presentation for the Session Library and then changing it significantly for your delivery may frustrate attendees who are using it for note-taking.  In our experience, it's not unusual for that comment to appear on speaker evaluations.

Handouts are not required, but many speakers still provide them and attendees appreciate them for note-taking purposes.  All handouts must conform to the Marketing Policy guidelines.  The conference cannot be responsible for reimbursement of these expenses.

We do not collect information on session selection at registration and so are unable to provide session attendance numbers prior to the conference.

Please refrain from promoting your company’s products or services during your presentations.  SHRM and the HR Certification Institute will not grant recertification credit for sales/marketing presentations.

The Symposium’s Marketing Policy includes, but is not limited to, the following:

     1. Contact information is limited to the last PowerPoint slide or handout page
     2. DO NOT solicit or collect attendee contact information
     3. NO selling, "raffling off” or drawings for any products or services.  (These activities are perfectly acceptable
from an exhibit booth, but not in an educational session.)
     4. NO videotaping, audiotaping or photography in sessions without prior approval is permitted.

Interested in marketing opportunities at Symposium? Contact us via email or call 713.426.2646.

Each session room will be equipped with the following "standard” AV equipment.  (Please note this does NOT apply to Unique Sessions held in the UNIQUE ZONE).

  • Podium
  • Wireless lavaliere microphone
  • LCD projector
  • Screen

If you plan to use a LAPTOP in your presentation, YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE for bringing it with you.

More information coming soon – watch the website for updates.

In appreciation of your participation, we are pleased to extend one Full Conference registration to confirmed concurrent session speakers. This offer is non-transferrable and is valued up to $880. The speaker badge you receive at Speaker Check-In will provide access to all sessions and the Solutions Center.

If you are bringing a technical assistant, that individual will have access to your session ONLY. If he/she wishes to attend other sessions and/or visit the Solutions Center, it will be necessary for him/her to register as a conference attendee.

Upon arriving at NRG Center, please immediately proceed to Speaker Check-In and Lounge (Room 500, MEZZANINE LEVEL).  A volunteer will be available to assist you with any last minute preparations in your room; introduce you by name, title and company at the start of the session; and keep you apprised of the time remaining during the last 15 minutes of your session.

Please email Barbara Lane, Executive Director, HR Houston or call 713.426.2646.
