Tom Burke Award

Thomas B. Burke, SPHR, was a special individual who was a dedicated leader in the human resource profession - a Past President of the chapter and a Past President of the Society for Human Resource Management. At the time of his death in 1996, HHRMA (HR Houston) established the Tom Burke Award for the Distinguished Professional in Human Resources in his memory. In naming a recipient of the award, the nomination committee searches for someone who meets the following criteria, as exemplified by Tom Burke in his career:

Criteria: (a) Professional HR Certification; (b) Member of HR Houston; (c) Actively employed with a minimum of ten years HR Management experience; (d) A strategic business partner; (e) A role model for the profession; (f) A leader, rather than a follower, who sets standards for the profession; and (g) Applies his/her professional experience outside his/her organization.
